The 64 metre Civic Tower dominates the main square of the town and offers an outstanding panorama.

The building was started in 1482 following the project by Matteo da Ancona. It was continued by Maestro Galasso Alghisi da Carpi and completed in the 1550’s. In 1568 it was embellished with a mechanical clock with automated movements, made by the Ranieri brothers di Reggio. In 1882 the clock was removed and replaced

by a memorial plaque dedicated to King Vittorio Emanuele II. The antique mechanism is housed

inside the Tower.
